Take Your Web Site to New Levels

Inserting Link Bars Into Your FrontPage Web

Here is how to place a link bar on your  page.

Before your start, go to the Navigation Pane and organize your pages into the hierarchy you want to appear on the link bars.

Now, select Insert-Web Components. Here is what your screen will look like. You have several options here. You can create a bar with custom links, a bar with back and next links, or a bar based on your navigation structure. In most cases, you will want a bar based on your navigation structure. Here is how to accomplish this. Select "Bar based on navigation structure" and click Next.

By default, your link bars will use the bar style of the theme you have applied to your web. If you prefer, you can select any link bar style you would like. On the link bar on this page, we've selected the Profile Theme. Once you've selected your style, click next.

Select a horizontal or vertical orientation.

Click finish. The Link Bar Properties window opens. Here are your options. You can have many different types of link structures.

In some cases, you will want to have more options than are available here. For instance, you may want to view the same level, as well as the same level. To do this, you can either create a custom link bar, or you can use two link bars as I have done on this page. The top bar is a custom bar, but the second is a bar based on the navigation structure.

This two link bar technique is versatile. It allows you to have one link bar that showcases the main web navigation, and a second that shows the links in a particular section of the web.
